Understanding Wale & Nap in Corduroy
The term “wale” refers to the number of ridges (or cords) per inch running parallel to the selvedge—the higher the wale count, the finer and smoother the texture.
Corduroy also has a nap, meaning the fabric surface has a directional grain. This requires a one-way cutting layout. When the nap runs down the garment, the fabric appears lighter and tends to wear better over time. When the nap runs up, it looks darker and gives the colour more depth and richness.
Choose the nap direction based on the finish and durability you want for your project.

Fabric Care: Hand or machine wash in cold water with similar colours, hang to dry, iron at low temperature. We recommend that you pre-wash/pre-treat your fabric before you begin constructing your garment, this will allow for any shrinkage.
